Absolutely Delighted!!! October 9, 2008 I have only just open the box and am using them as I am writing this. Absolutely fantastic! Not often do you find such value for money. Thanks to all those who wrote the past reviews. Right on the button. Certainly not for bass freaks which suits me great. Powerful but not overbearing, superb sound definition. From Satriani's guitar nonsense to Miles Davis this sounds really wonderful. For those who can't go through life without moaning, it is indeed a bulky headset and the "telephone" style cord is thick and heavy and somewhat cumbersome. I would say that form first impressions it isn't a traveler's item. But who cares when the music sounds so good and the world around can't spoil your listening pleasure because it blocks outside noise so well? (Better than some so called noise canceling headsets) This is a great buy if you are looking for this particular type of headphones.
Excellent value for money August 30, 2008 I've had these cans for about a year now... and it's by far my most beloved possession!!
I listen to classical, rock, hip-hop; use it for late-night piano practice, and the occasional music production.
The response is flat... so it might take a while getting used to -if you prefer thumping bass in your music. However, they reproduce sound EXACTLY as it's recorded. I've heard several details in songs I never knew were there before!! I also own a pair pricier Etymotic Research in-canal headphones and the clarity of this is comparable to that.
The noise-isolation is astounding! The ear cups physically block out sound, without being uncomfortable. You'll get completely lost in your music if you've got these on.
If you need headphones with clarity, superb noise-isolation and comfort, these are for you. However, don't expect to wear these outdoors without getting odd looks -they're way TOO bulky! hence my 4-star rating.
Superb value for the money! July 24, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Sennheiser HD280pro Closed DJ/Monitor Headphone
In a world where we're used to headphones that artificially 'hype up' the bass frequencies it's a pleasure to use the HD280s - after all, the product description does state that they are monitor headphones, and that is exactly what they do! They deliver a very natural and detailed reproduction of the source including a solid (but not overblown!) bass.
After they are run in for about 24 hours they are capable of delivering a quality of music reproduction that belies their very reasonable price level. They have become a worthy companion to my elderly open type HD540 Reference 'phones.
My test music ranged from Snow Patrol, Alison Krauss/Robert Plant, Arcade Fire to cello, flute and harpsichord chamber music and I was, and remain very impressed!
Outstanding sound; but uncomfortable April 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Good news: These cans have an excellent sound quality/price ratio, especially for closed headphones. Very clear reproduction of lows to highs. Sound cancelling is excellent from both inside and out. Sturdily constructed and surprisingly light. Curly cord is great. I bought them in States and they worked a treat on the transatlantic flight, taking me to aurally to airy concert halls and neon lit clubs...though only for short spells, for the reasons below:
Bad news: I have a small head, yet these things grip like some kind of mechnical parasite! That's an exaggeration - I can wear them without serious discomfort for maybe an hour at a time, but it's a bummer, since I bought them to cancel out the inane yatterings of my workmates (an 8 hr task!).
I would give the hd280s a 5/5 if they were less tiring to wear.
Perfect for Musical Instruments March 2, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Just got a pair of these for my wife to use on her Electric Piano and I have to say that are excellent. The sound quality is superb, with great frequency range and definition. I have also tried them on the Electric Guitar and they are just as impressive.
The Sound is well contained with in the headphone and no leakage of sound at all. They are comfortable and light so I have no concerns of them getting uncomfortable with prolonged use. I will try them on my ipod later, but I am sure they will impress there as well.
If you want something for all round use then don't look any further as these will meet all your audio requirements.
