Product Description Originally developed for professional musicians, the E3c combines WideBand MicroDriver technology with a sound isolating design to deliver rich, detailed sound with improved high end while blocking outside noise -- ideal for optimizing your listening experience with portable MP3, DVD, and CD players as well as all other audio sources.Sound Isolating Technology The E3c's in ear design works like an earplug to block background noise naturally. This enables you to listen comfortably at lower volumes-even in loud environments. And unlike bulky headphones utilizing active noise cancellation technology, no artifacts are introduced into your listening experience. Sound isolating earphones are also much smaller and don't require batteries. Speaker Type: WideBand MicroDrivers The E3c's speakers are constructed with studio-grade components to produce exceptional audio clarity, delivering detailed highs and enhanced bass that allows you to hear parts of your music you've never heard before. Personal Fit Kit Because every ear is different, E3c Earphones come with a pair of disposable Foam Sleeves, three pairs (small, medium, large) of Flex Sleeves, and three pairs of Soft Flex Sleeves (small, medium, large) to ensure the ideal personalized fit. Secure In Ear Design The soft, flexible sleeves in the Fit Kit gently contour to the inside of your ear to create a comfortable, secure fit, so that the earphones don't fall out while exercising. The E3c's are also compatible with custom-molded sleeves, made by a hearing specialist, for the ultimate in fit and comfort. Lightweight ConstructionWeighing only 0.9 oz (28g), the E3c is among the lightest earphones on the market.Earphones Carrying CaseThe E3c comes with a stylish, compact carrying case. The cable spool inside provides a convenient, tangle-free way to store your earphones.

True Quality Sound November 8, 2008 As many others have said "you need to get the fit right!". The build quality is superb even if they are a little bulkier than others on the market. In particular the thickness of the cable can be off putting. The jack is a little large also, but these points are out weighed by the fantastic quality of sound. What amazed me on using them was the sounds you hear that you miss on cheaper products. The breathing of the musicians, the shuffle of feet! You really feel you are in the thick of it. On the subject of fit, I found the yellow foam tips the best and most comfortable, sure they don't look 'cool' but if that's what you want then look elsewhere. If you get the fit wrong they will be uncomfortable and the range will be severely reduced. These are for the sound perfectionist! The tips are expensive to replace though, expect to pay 15.00 to 20.00 for 10 replacement pairs. In a nutshell these are special and worth every penny but not for those who just want a 'look cool' accessory for their Ipod.
WARNING: these earphones have no bass!! April 10, 2008 I was quite surprised to see reviews on here saying the bass is good on these earphones, as I found it almost non-existent.
In fairness, bass on in-ear headphones comes down to how well they fit...so I guess you just have to try them out. If they work for you then great because the high/mid range on these is AMAZING. Rich and sharp, you hear every detail...unfortunatley the lack of bass killed it for me. I also found them very uncomfortable and intrusive...again a personal thing I guess. Luckily, when I bought them they had a money back within x days guarantee (not sure if they still do this) which I thought was a great idea, especially for someone who hasn't tried in-ear headphones before.
I 'downgraded' to a pair of Sennheiser CX500's which were a lot cheaper, more lightweight/comfortable and have mountains of bass. High range sound quality doesn't match the E3C's but the bass makes overall sound better and they are way more comfortable. I use these as a portable option when I don't want to carry my big old closed back headphones around.
Ok, but they don't stay in properly February 18, 2008 The shape of your ear is a personal thing - one man's beautiful fit is another girls throbing ache. I just found my E3Cs unutterably frustrating - so I sold them cheap on eBay. They simply would not stay in snugly for more than about 5 paces when walking. For those 5 paces they sounded very clear with reasonable bass (nothing massive mind)- like all-high end buds I've tried, the trebble can be a bit overbearing. For my ears, these were hopeless buds. I've found the Sennheiser CX55 work very well for me.
The best earphones I've ever owned February 8, 2008 There are several reasons why I think these earphones are so good. 1) The sound quality is excellent. There's plenty of bass, even at low volumes. 2) They block out lots of background noise. Thankfully this means you don't have to crank the volume right up to hear your music. (They come supplied with several sizes of rubber ear pieces so they'll fit everyone.) 3) They are incredibly comfortable. Unlike tradition in ear plastic earphones, these don't hurt your ears after twenty minutes use. I've left them in for hours without suffering any discomfort. In fact I use them (with an adaptor) as the hands free hit for my mobile phone. They're much better than those big plastic ones that hang on your ear.
The only minor drawback is that there's no volume control on the cable. This would be nice as they can be quite loud if the input source doesn't have a fine volume control. eg I used them on the in flight entertainment system on a long haul flight. The lowest volume the chair would give out was still too loud to be comfortable. I wouldn't expect this to be a problem with MP3 players etc though.
Overall I can strongly recommend these. I understand that the high price tag may put some people off, but they really are worth it.
Thank Goodness for the Warranty....Kind Of! February 6, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Yes the E3Cs have great sound, but only when they are actually working.
Unlike most reviews on here I had my set for 10 months before leaving feedback. It does take a while to get used to the 'weirdness' of blocking out the background noise, but don't buy any waffle about 'no more station announcements' and 'goodbye to annoying commuters on their mobiles'. I could definitely hear both with ease whilst making the daily commute. With a good seal I would say that you could block out around 40%-50% of background noise. A definite improvement, but still room for manouvre. If you pushed the buds around you could get a better seal but then you have to keep your hands stuck to your ears for the rest of the day.
You can order up custom made sleeves for your Shures which are meant to provide a more comfortable fit and ultimately even less background noise. But at around 80 they are a bit of a gamble.
So I was enjoying the EC3s until last week, when I suddenly noticed that there was a distinct lack of volume from the right bud. No obvious signs of a visible fault so off they went back to whence they came. All credit to Shure they didn't mess about and sent a new pair of headphones within a few days. Only thing is that they are SE210s. Yes they're of the same value that I paid for my E3s (reduced to 70) but they aren't as high spec and I feel that I've ultimately lost out. For 70 I'd expect a set of earphones to last for at least a couple of years.
