 Simple kit but does what it is meant to.. but should come with a power supply July 3, 2008
This little adaptor which is basically what this item comes down to will easily connect to your TV/DVD/Sky via the component cable leads/Scart adaptor to allow for recording/playback.
It is basically a moulded plug that will connect to the underside of your Archos 4 gen. I have a 404 camcorder and it allows me to playback home movies/record last nights sky. It has the input for a charger power supply so that your archos doesn't run out (but not the transformer). I bought the cheap PC adaptor ( called the docking adaptor) as well as this not only gives easy PC interface but also a power supply that you can use on this device (as the USB on the PC will charge you archos when connected to the PC). This will then all you the store the original interface lead that you get with your archos for when your around other PCs. I use this kit all the time and it is very good, if only it contained the 5V power supply it would be 5/5.
You can also charge using a 5V multi terminal charger from any electrical shop if you don't want the PC lead.
If you find issues with playing your PC films on your archos try the free program "pocketdivxencoder" which will convert your AVI files into simpler formats specifically for the Archos (all types).

This is the travel version of the full Archos DVR Station. The difference between the two is that this has no S-Video, SP/DIF or component video, just the standard composite video (and audio). It allows you to record video and sound from an external source whereas the stand alone Archos player does not.
Unlike the full version it doesn't need external power but there is a socket in case you want to.
My only gripe... be careful with the docking connectors. They're not built for years of abuse so be careful if you mate the two parts together on a regular basis.
Other than that it does the job perfectly well.

Not impressed, once you have paid for this item you then need to buy power adapters to use it, how does that help you travel? Plus it consists of a composite video and stereo to single three way jack lead (probably available at a greatly reduced price as a seperate item) and an adapter for the USB connection on the device (again this could be a USB adapter to charge the unit at a further greatly reduced price). This item in my opinion has very little value for money; it appears that Archos get you hooked with the main device then milk you for all the peripherals.
